I'd love to see discussion on John de Ruiter- I've been to see many teachers, but John gave me the biggest "chill" of being cultlike. I still remember some woman in the retreat coming up to me with wild eyes, grabbing both my hands and shouting "It's liquid gold! It's liquid gold" (referring to John). I saw some really strange energy in that place. Also, all anyone ever talked about was giving up their life for what they knew to be "true", which generally meant moving to Edmonton to be close to John. All in all, a weird trip. And I'm pretty open minded about this kind of stuff generally!

de Ruiter is about as bad as gurudom gets, imo. It's nothing more than mass hysteria by simple suggestion. It's the oldest con in gurudom. God help those who feel they have to move near the guy.

I have never heard of this guy until I saw this post. But after doing a little research I agree, he is about the worst of the fake gurus. All he talks about is the "Truth" and giving up everything for the "Truth".

He looks like that country singer from the truck commercials, Toby Keith.

Toby Keith- totally!!! And to top it off- he really, truly, drives one of those country monster trucks, it's this huge bright blue pick up truck that has those oversized pumped up wheels on it. It's like one of those cars you used to see on TV that would be driving over piles of normal sized cars and crushing them. He totally drives that kind of car. Oh, and he is in a relationship with two sisters. Sad thing is, a few of my friends who used to be with Gangaji actually moved to Edmonton to be with him, that's how I ended up there checking him out.

And conveniently for his dupes, he IS the "Truth."

John de Ruiter strikes me as a true "Spiritual Psychopath"...in the sense that he himself realy believes in his own nonsense. But that he is utterly incapable of helping or leading anyone.

I have read one of his books, listened to a couple of tapes and attended one of his discourses. And i must say i was shocked each time how little sense he actualy makes, and how strangely that seems to be very atractive for some groups of people!

His gross contradictions, and manipulative psychobable is presented in an almost hypnotic way which apparently seem to have a soothing effect on some stressed out or weaker minds! :)

First time i saw him i could only stare in utter disbelief, and while trying to catch him offguard i realised that this guy is a genuine nutcase who actualy believes what is coming out of his own mouth, and that he propably at some point suffered some sort of psychological blow or breakdown which left him in that limbo world of pseudo- enlightenment and megalomania!

I wouldnt be much surprised if his followers commited some outrageous act of group suicide further down the road, or something of that nature.

It is very encouraging to see how many of you have seen through this fraud. Unlike the lemmings that follow him in Edmonton, a place John De Ruiter himself describes as the armpit of the earth, yeah Edmonton now there's a shangrala huh!, The Maui Gurupies dropped him like a hot piece of lava rock when his Wife, Joyce, spoke out at a meeting in Edmonton about his affairs with the Von Flakey sisters and probably did so in part because Joyce was very well liked among the Maui followers and so they were not hoodwinked by John's Holier-than-thou-facade as the exclusive perceiver of and therefore the exclusive knower of the Truth. That was about eight or nine years ago and I went with my Papa who is a Hawaiian Kahu. I was a little girl then and did not understand why my Papa said "this John Do Righer one fake Kahu". I asked Papa recently and he said he was amazed that Haoles were so easy to fool since they acted like they were better and smarter than us. When I asked Papa to explain, he said "Well LeiLani you were a little girl, but I would have expected any adult looking for a spiritual teacher to at least observe simple things about a person like breathing and eyeblinks" In that way Papa took my memory back to that day and my recollection was that John had very shallow breathing so while he was able to keep his arms and feet still and stare in silence his body betrayed him to be a person lacking in any personal mental or spiritual discipline, as Papa would then explain John Do Righter, as Papa Calls him in mockery of John's Immoral behavior, was no more than an act, and not a very good act at that. "You see now Leilani, only easy it is to fool people dat get weak selfish minds, Smart Haole or Simple Kanaka, all da same, no matter if da mind stay only weak and selfish."
